Started in 2007, Get Stirred Up is a creative studio and growth consultancy with offerings ranging from positioning and naming to identity development, website design, production of internal and external communications collateral, and the design, implementation, and measurement of marketing / awareness campaigns.
Our firm is led by David Roth (left) and Rick Bacher, a “Strategy + Design Duo.” David leads brand and growth strategy with an eye towards design. Rick leads design with a strategic mindset. We are who our clients interact with, not account managers. As necessary, we are supported by a highly select group of professionals with specific subject matter and/or technical expertise.
With over 30 years of experience as creative catalysts and serial entrepreneurs, we've built and scaled numerous ventures across various industries. Our Founders’ DNA is reflected in every project we take on, having been in the shoes of our clients—running operations, making critical decisions, and seeking to create value at every step along the way.
David Roth leverages over three decades of entrepreneurial, executive, and consulting experience to transform brands into dynamic engines for business growth. Known for his visionary approach and strategic insight, David has made a significant impact across various industries, guiding companies through critical business milestones with innovative brand strategies.
David's career began in San Francisco, where he established a communications consulting practice, developing M&A collateral for Wells Fargo Bank and addressing sensitive workplace topics for Bank of America. His talent for handling complex messaging and strategic communication set the stage for his future ventures.
Driven by a passion for experiential travel, David launched Palate and Spirit, the first-ever culinary travel magazine. This groundbreaking publication, which was the first to feature Julia Child's prized collection of photographs and memoirs, earned global recognition from food and travel media circles and led to his being offered the role of Associate Publisher for Fodor’s and Mobil Travel Guides at Random House. In this role, David honed his skills in multimedia marketing strategies, overseeing the varied collections of the world's largest travel publisher.
David's Ed.M. in human development from Harvard’s Graduate School of Education provides a unique lens through which he views his work in transforming innovative ideas into viable businesses. His business development consulting roles with The New York Times and Time-Life Custom Publishing further connected companies with their audiences through brand-focused custom publishing.
As an entrepreneur, David is best known for creating the multi-unit foodservice brand, Cereality Cereal Bar & Cafe, which he co-founded with Rick Bacher. Under his leadership as CEO, the company secured backing from PepsiCo’s Quaker Foods as well as premium licensing deals with Mars, Old Navy, and Dodge. Cereality expanded to seven company-owned and 26 franchised units before being acquired by Kahala Corporation in 2007.
Following the successful exit from Cereality, David and Rick co-founded Get Stirred Up to help business owners and non-profit leaders "see reality" through their own powerful brands.
Rick Bacher, co-founder and chief creative officer, has over three decades of experience in strategic design. His work focuses on creating distinctive and cohesive branding solutions. Known for his strategic, whole-branded-system mindset, Rick ensures that every design element contributes to a unified and impactful brand experience.
Rick's design journey began with a BFA in graphic design from York University. He launched his career as Nortel Network’s first in-house designer, quickly advancing to senior designer. At Nortel, he designed and produced a wide range of corporate collateral and multimedia presentations for the company’s CEO.
Rick then moved to New York to become the art director for the James Beard Foundation, where he was responsible for designing and art directing all publications and collateral, including a monthly newsletter, quarterly magazine, materials for special events, and the annual Awards Gala.
Collaborating with David Roth, Rick addressed the design needs of his consulting practice while also working with a premier media industry-focused brand design firm. During this time, he designed promotional materials, collateral, and packaging for high-profile clients such as HBO, PBS, BusinessWeek, and Nikon, showcasing his versatility and creativity.
As co-founder and chief creative officer of Cereality Cereal Bar & Cafe, Rick was the creative force behind the brand’s identity, café design, packaging, and communications. His innovative “My Cereal. My Way.” custom-cereal-box won First Place in “The WOW Factor!” category by the Foodservice & Packaging Institute and QSR Magazine. His design for the Cereality Sloop™ spoon-straw utensil also received recognition.
Rick’s expertise spans designing logos and identity systems, print and digital collateral, websites, technical publications, packaging, promotional materials, and retail and office environments. His work has been acknowledged in various publications and is a highlighted case study in Alina Wheeler’s book, Designing Brand Identity.
At Get Stirred Up, Rick continues to leverage his extensive design experience to create brand experiences that drive business success. His thoughtful and strategic approach ensures that every project not only meets but exceeds client expectations.
Brand Staging is our approach to turning your brand into a high-value asset, ready for whatever comes next—be it entering new markets, launching a product, or even preparing for a business sale or acquisition. We use the term “staging” because, like in real estate, subtle yet strategic enhancements can make all the difference. By refining your brand’s identity, messaging, and digital presence, we ensure they highlight the qualities that matter most to your audience, making your brand feel like a must-have.
We start by understanding your unique objectives, then refine every brand element—identity, messaging, and digital presence—to create a cohesive, compelling narrative. This ensures that whether you’re aiming for market growth, a refreshed image, or maximizing value in a sale, your brand is positioned as a strategic asset, ready to deliver results.
